POTHOLES caused by the extreme winter weather will be eradicated “on time and on budget” according to Barnet Council.

Many of the borough's road's were left with craters following the freezing conditions at the beginning of the year, leaving drivers worried about their cars and cyclists over road safety.

Councillor Brian Coleman pledged to make roads his top priority when picked for the transport role in the council in May, promising to fill all the potholes by November.

More than £2.4m will have been spent on fixing an estimated 53,500 metres of tarmac in the borough by the time phase two of the plans is completed.

Temporary repairs had been made to as many as 9,000 potholes by July, when the scheme was announced by Cllr Coleman.

A statement from Barnet Council said: “The Pothole Elimination Programme has been delivered on time and on budget.

“The council is on course for eradicating potholes from all the borough's roads, allowing Barnet residents to go about their business safely and smoothly.”
