THE Mayor of Barnet has been given “advice about his future conduct” by police over an alleged phone call he made to an independent council candidate.
Councillor Brian Coleman was accused of making the “intimidating” call to Residents' Association of Barnet candidate Linda Edwards last Wednesday.
Mrs Edwards, who is standing in Edgware, made a complaint to police about the call, alleging Cllr Coleman was exerting “undue influence” over her under election law.
A spokesman for Barnet Police said: “Officers from Colindale assessed the complaint and, after seeking advice from the CPS, deemed no criminal offence had been committed.
“The man was traced and an officer spoke to him and advised him of his future conduct."
Mrs Edwards had alleged Cllr Coleman made implied threats about future support to the Larches Trust, a charity she is the honorary chief executive of.
Cllr Coleman had chosen them as one of his favoured charities for his year in office and is also a patron of.
He is also the London Assembly member for Barnet and Camden.
