When the final credits rolled on Britain’s Got Talent on Sunday night, North Finchley composer Danny Davies breathed a huge sigh of relief - not only had his musical, Chasing the Dream, made it through to the semi-final round, but he was now finally able to tell all his friends and family of his success.
“The audition actually took place back in January,” says Danny, who featured in last week’s Freetime ahead of the broadcast, “so it’s been a long while!”
Danny wrote the music for Chasing the Dream, the first musical ever to have been entered on the hit talent show, with writer and lyricist Pete Gallagher, from Tring, and Stuart Sweeting, from Watford.
The musical follows the lives of five people who land in the Big Apple on the same day, looking for a new life, who don’t realise that their lives are about to become inextricably linked. Rehearsals for the show were mostly held at artsdepot in North Finchley.
For their first-round audition, Danny’s cast of 16 performed the song Living the Dream, and for their live semi-final show, to be screened on Friday night, they will be performing another number from the show, Shine on Down.
The live semi-final shows are on every night this week on ITV1, culminating in Friday’s final show. Watch this space in next week’s Freetime to see how Danny and the crew did this time.
Britain’s Got Talent is on ITV1 all this week at 7.30pm and Chasing the Dream is on Friday, with the live results show at 9.30pm. The final is on June 8.
